Gen Z is annoying about being Gen Z | Sidney Chen – Grade 9

Before you call me a “boomer” or try to cancel me, read this article, because it’s time we realize that we aren’t the first generation to think that we’re going to change the world. It’s not news that Gen Z isn’t the first generation to think they’re special, but it’s the fact that we know it and still try so hard to be different that makes us so annoying.

Gen Z has no personality

Being part of a given generation was never a big deal until Generation Z started calling their parents Boomers. And there’s nothing wrong with being proud of your generation. But our generation isn’t just proud. We think that being Gen Z is a whole personality, and everything we are is defined by the internet. One of the biggest traits is the “Gen Z humor” comments.

Every generation has its most defining traits, like with Millennials and their pumpkin spice lattes for example. But for some odd reason, Gen Zs have five-year-old poo poo humour. And don’t get me wrong, five-year-old humour is funny, but once in a while when you’re on TikTok and come across a funny video, you see a comment that says “OMG this is so Gen Z”, which is annoying because you don’t have to bring up being Gen Z into everything.

Gen Z thinks we’re going to start a revolution

Another thing is the fact that we think we’re going to dominate the world, which is not a surprise. But the thing is that every generation thinks this. Every generation at one point has thought that they’re special and were going to start a revolution. We just happened to have the Coronavirus hit while we were already struggling through puberty.

Gen Z is turning into a cult

We are so proud of being Gen Z to the point where it’s turning into a cult. Don’t even get me started on the Gen Z tattoos. For some odd reason, someone recommended everyone of our generation get matching tattoos.

And the tattoos aren’t even the worst part. Unsurprisingly, the people who decided it was a good idea to turn our generation into a cult managed to not do research before designing the logo, because it ended up being a literal Nazi sign. And even better, some people unknowingly got the logo tattooed on their body without thinking first. This just shows how stupidly proud Gen Z is about being Gen Z.

Always categorizing people

We praise feminism and normalize body positivity, and it’s true that we are trying more than people used to. But then we categorize people for what they do or like, especially online with VSCO girls and E-girls (popular stereotypes online during early 2019) for example. This is hypocritical because we’re saying that we need to normalize things then making a big deal out of people being who they are, making it seem not normal and it even causes more people to be insecure.

In conclusion, Generation Z is not going to change the world by only posting Tik Toks about climate change or making fun of people trying to save the turtles. Of course there’s nothing wrong with being proud. Don’t get me wrong, I am very glad that I wasn’t born into the generation where most people are homophobic and rude to service employees. But if we could tone it down sometimes maybe we’d be more tolerable.
