Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is one of the most popular types of music these days. EDM used to be heard exclusively at parties and nightclubs, but recently, people have been listening to and playing EDM everywhere. Furthermore, there are many young DJs starting to create EDM in different forms, so many new varieties of the genre have been created. EDM isn’t hard to produce, and you can create a unique song of your own in just a few simple steps.

History of EDM

EDM originated in the late 1980s, from clubs and festivals in Europe. EDM can be classified into four main groups; dubstep, tropical, house, and trance music. EDM has increased in popularity since 2008, because a few famous artists/DJ’s started to collaborate with singers to make their songs. These include Tiësto, David Guetta, and Martin Garrix.

The genre has become so well known because of two main reasons: first, the beats are brainwashing and easy to remember because the music is simply a few notes repeated. Secondly, because it is so brainwashing, people like to listen to it every day.

How they make it

If you want to make your own EDM music, you start with the beat. Most people believe in making melodies first, but EDM music starts at a simple beat. Drums are the best option for forming a beat, and it will affect how fast or slow your music goes.

After the beat, you create the bass line (background music). The bass will help layer your lead, making it sound better and less boring. A bass line can be formed by a few simple chords, and the piano is the best choice for a bass line, but it usually depends on what kind of music style you want to make to determine the bass instrument.

Lastly, you make the lead, which is the melody for the song. This is the most important part of the whole song, and it is the hardest part to produce. The key to making a good lead is to find something that sounds good to you, and to assemble it. Sometimes the lead can be aggressive, and sometimes it can be really peaceful. The different instruments used for your lead will affect the style of your music.

Famous Artists

The three most popular DJs today are Martin Garrix, Tiësto, and David Guetta. These artists may be the most well-known, but there are actually a ton of contributors to the growth of this genre. They include; the best tropical DJ Kygo, king of beats Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, dubstep phenomenon Skrillex, and the unique “trap music” artist DJ Snake. These DJs are all remarkable in different ways and they have shocked the world with their music.

Listening to these DJs will assist you on creating your own. By listening to their music, you might be able to develop some influence from them and turn them into your own beats. By mastering EDM skills, perhaps in the future, you can become an EDM master that makes an impact in the music industry.

Today, EDM can be heard nearly everywhere, and more and more people have started to notice it, making it one of the most favored genres in music. Many people love hearing EDM, so a lot of EDM festivals and events have been occuring around the world, using music as a power to unite people together and party like there is no tomorrow. EDM has become a great part of many people’s lives, and it is still evolving and getting better everyday, because without music, what fun is there left in life?
