  • People should discover the difference between AI and human intelligence

Recently, an AI (also known as Artificial Intelligence) program named AlphaGo made history by beating one of the top Go players in the world, Korea’s Lee Sedol. This shows that technology has improved so much these days that AI would possibly have higher intelligence than mankind one day. People may be really excited to have such great helpers that can finish all the work efficiently for us; however, the world’s biggest tech icons – Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking, and Elon Musk – are worried. “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race,” Stephen Hawking said.

AI has been a great helper in the past few years, used to develop and advance numerous fields and industries, including finance, healthcare, education, transportation, and more. AI is better than human intelligence in a lot of ways. First, it never stops and makes less mistakes because it never gets tired. Next, because it’s powered by electricity, the cost of producing products can be very low compared to human salary. Third, it has very accurate calculating and analytical skills. Therefore, scientists think AI has huge potential. For example, in the next few years, AI is expected to perform specific tasks, including eradicating disease and poverty, being able to drive a car, making food from a science experiment, electronic trading, robot control, remote sensing, etc. 70-80%of jobs could be replaced by AI. Human beings would no longer need to work. Society will become so convenient that our lives will be easy and without challenge.

However, if AI has abilities to do everything better and faster than all humans, people may become “endangered” easily. According to Charles Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection, AI has the advantage to be the fittest creature. It could have better learning abilities, would make less mistakes, and has a better memory compared to humans. Plus, although people programmed AI as a beneficial product, they would probably develop a destructive method to achieve its goal. Machines could become smart enough to decide whether to do what they’re asked to or to cheat their owners. It’s totally possible for AI to change their minds one day and start planning how to destroy human civilization. They’ll be jealous for the power to control the world. They may want human history to end. They are an existential threat to humanity.

Many people are worried about AI taking over the world. However, instead of waiting for the tragedy to take place, we should discover the difference between AI and HI (human intelligence). For example, humans are better thinkers and are much more creative. We’ve invented so many things to make our lives convenient and interesting in the past, and our superior minds will continue surprising the world in the future for sure. Also, we have feelings, emotions, and social skills. Human beings need to realize and learn how important it is to work together as a team. Not only do these skills improve efficiency and productivity, they also offer different perspectives and feedback.

So, will AI take over the world? Maybe it will, when it’s developed enough. However, if human beings don’t stop being enthusiastic about learning, thinking, and surprising the world, we still have a long time until the tragedy happens. Or even better, we’ll keep being the leader forever. Whether AI will take over or not depends on our choices and priorities.
